[when oikawa originally booked his return flight home after the closing ceremonies it had been with the entire intention of staying behind in japan for two whole weeks. he came with his team, and had been super focused on practicing and making sure everything went well leading up to their matches. he figured that, well... if things didn't go smoothly he could wallow his sorrows with his family and friends.
oikawa planned for a lot of things, he just... never really planned for this. he didn't want to give himself the luxury of thinking that he could actually reach his unattainable dreams. and somewhere a part inside oikawa was ready to fight that nasty train of thought. he blamed being back in his homeland for digging up those thoughts he had buried away all those years ago. (there's the reason why he never wanted to leave argentina.)
the closing ceremony felt like a dream come true. he was practically floating on cloud nine when he went down the parade route once again with half of his team and fellow olympians who also stayed behind.
he stayed the last night in the olympic village, but could hardly sleep a wink. he was too excited and happy that it left him buzzing all night. he could have joined his rowdy teammates, but he knew he would need to have things in order so he could trek it over to his parents. and he was sure they would be ushering people out as quickly as they could. (also a part of him knew he wasn't going to be able to get another nights rest on that cardboard bed. he completely forgot how... resourceful japan could be with their waste efforts. as admirable as it was, it definitely did not do his back any wonders.) he was awake before his alarm went off.
once he made sure he had everything he left with a tired yawn. the only thing he wasn't expecting to do was to run right into someone. with a resounding oof, he stumbles backwards as his back hits the door of his room.]
Ah lo siento--

Follow me then, Oikawa.

also he is not catching on to the raised eyebrow, and just thinking that's normal for their banter, or whatever.]
Hmm, it's so weird being back.

Was it hard to adjust to speaking more Japanese than Spanish?

A little, actually! As you could [can?? he's not gonna sweat the tense changes. fuck u te style] imagine not that many people in Argentina speak Japanese, so... [he gestures with his shoulders] When Iwachan was over in California he wanted to really practice his Spanish, so most of our conversations were in that. Even when I met up with Shrimpy in the summers we would speak to one another in Spanish. Were it not for the fact that I talk to my family semi weekly I probably would have forgotten a majority of it.
[he purses his lips. it was such a hardship to learn spanish when he was first starting out, but now? it's a struggle for him to remember stuff asides the most basic things.] I understand it perfectly though, so good luck trying to think you can shit talk.

I speak Polish, as a reminder. But why would I talk badly about you?

[he shrugs] It didn't stop you before when we were younger, what with you going on and on about how weak my team was and... what was it? My insignificant pride? Ring any bells Ushiwaka??
