[ the ball was supposed to be a way for prince iwaizumi to find his future spouse.
really, it was just a way for him spend the past several hours bored out of his mind. there's only so many times he can fake smile at every person who introduces themselves to him, hoping for a spark to kindle between them and iwaizumi would whisk them away for the night.
except no, that's not happening.
he sighs and looks out over the people. so many people, so much boredom. ]
[when he had heard that king iwaizumi was throwing a ball for his son and had invited everyone in the kingdom?? well. of course he was ecstatic! it was an open invitation for everyone in the kingdom to go to an extravagant party for prince hajime. his step mother and step sisters seemed to marvel at the idea as well. oikawa had mentioned accompanying them, and they hadn't said anything about it. but when the day rolled around and he came clambering down the stairs in his father's old suit-- well. they laughed at him. they laughed and tore him and his suit down. once they had left for the ball, oikawa found himself walking towards the garden, and it was there when he had finally broken down.
oikawa was just looking forward to having an enjoyable night out. he hasn't had one night to himself for.... actually he can't even remember the last time he spent doting on himself? every day was spent towards working nonstop for his family. sure it was hard work, but it kept him from letting his thoughts consume him wholly. and then for them to do this? well... it sucked. oikawa wiped at the tears that formed in his eyes and picked himself up. thankfully though, he wasn't left alone for long as his good old fairy god mother came in and saved the day. she provided him transportation to the ball and even fixed up and transformed his suit to look exactly like this. it shimmered and shined when light hit it in certain places. it was everything he could have wished for honestly!!! as he was getting ready to leave, his fairy god mother warned him that he needed to be back by midnight. which was totally doable, if you asked oikawa.
thankfully by the time oikawa showed up there weren't that many people around, so he slipped in quietly. or not so quietly??? he definitely made an entrance and tried his best to not screw it up. he smiled and waved at everybody as he quickly walked down the steps, his shoes glinted with every step he took.
once he was able to escape into the crowd he let out a sigh of relief as he placed a hand over his heart.]
[oikawa startles a bit but doesn't turn around just yet] Yeah? I mean... I honestly should have assumed it was going to be? Because Prince Hajime had expressed that he wanted to invite everyone here-- but I just wasn't expecting all of this?
Well, yeah, that's what the announcer said in town. And then he extended the invitation to the entire village. [he's.... not sure he understands the point of this convo lksahgkldsdsfa]
Oh... well, at least you get to serve the king and prince? [oikawa can't think of anything else more fun, tbh.] And they're letting you attend the ball. That must be incredibly nice!
Wha-- [he blinks.] You... you want to dance with me? Well, uhm, okay! But I should probably preface this by telling you that I'm not the best of dancers. My mother was an excellent dancer, but she died before she had the chance to teach me anything. My father would have, if he had the chance to, but I didn't want him to be reminded of her ill-timed death. And he was always so busy anyways.
[he can't help but smile at that.] Well... alright! I'd love to have this dance with you, ah-- [he pauses. and then flushes.] Oh, no, I'm sorry! I seem to have forgotten my manners. I'm Tooru.
[he does a double take. say. what. he tries to yank his hand away, because he's pretty sure he shouldn't be holding on to the prince the way that he is. but the prince has a vice grip on his hand. he stutters a bit as he looks back forlornly] Wh- I'm.. I'm so sorry your majesty! I... I hadn't-- you... you're the prince!!
I-- I suppose? I guess we just get so caught up over the fact that you're such an important figure in our kingdom, and because of that most hold you in a different way than others? But in the end you're just like us. And for what it's worth I'm sorry that you're being forced to marry someone. If you marry at all, it should be for love.
[he dares not move his head to see all the jealous attendees giving him the stink-eye bc he's getting to dance with the prince. instead he just.... looks at iwaizumi and nods his head nervously.] If you're still up with dancing with me your majesty.
