the punk/nerd au we always wanted
[oikawa was a rather quiet and reserved kid in school. he minded his own business and generally just... kept to himself. he was sort of popular back in junior high when he was on the volleyball team. but due to a knee injury (from overexerting himself) he had to quit when he started high school. not really having anything to fill up the void that volleyball practice did, he focused on his studies. and spent a good portion watching tv shows with his family. mostly he watched the stuff his nephew was really into whenever he babysat and-- well... needless to say he totally got hooked on anime, and fantasy dramas. he also fell really super hard into alien shows. but those he mostly had to stream since all the good ones were in america.
needless to say he was a nerd. a nerd who was now attending a college in a very big city (okay a moderate city. it wasn't as cramped as say tokyo is) that was far away from the small country bumpkin area he was practically used to. and because he kept to himself mostly he didn't really have any friends. he did the dorm experience because his parents said it would honestly do him well, but it really didn't. in fact his roommate had a new girl in their dorm almost every other night. (needless to say he spent a majority of his first year sleeping in the library.) but once the new school year started he had begged his parents to let him get a small studio apartment to live in, and lo and behold they actually agreed.
his first three weeks in his new house space was absolutely perfect. save for the loud music that blared raucously manner. at first he was willing to let it go for a week thinking that whoever it was must be having a party. the apartment was a couple of blocks away from the university, so it made sense for young university students to live here as well. i mean, he lived here, so it wasn't unlikely that someone else had the same thing in mind.
but then the music and loudness kept on going and going. and there was only so much oikawa could take! so one night (oikawa actually had to put his glasses on to see what time it was) at two in the morning he rolled out of bed (wearing his ridiculous soft looking salmon sushi patterned boxers and his i alien head aliens shirt) and marched to his neighbor's door. well-- okay he didn't march he walked over there trepidly and knocked softly.
if only he were good at confrontation.....]

fifty years later
he graduated, and moved away from his town. he needed a change.
which is probably why he decided that piercings and tattoos were good ideas. not many, just one in his eyebrow, a couple in his ears, and some tattoos on his arms.
he doesn't make much from his job, which is why he picked a studio apartment close to a college campus. and then sometimes his job is just tough, and to unwind, he just plays music to block everything out. in fact, if it wasn't for the song ended right when oikawa knocked, he wouldn't have heard it.
he sighs and makes his way to the door, opening it. ]
Yeah? What is it?
[ ... cute guy, if really nerdy ]
iwachan has returned from the war.

magical time change whoooosh!!
[and with that he turns around and leaves. before he says something else that will completely embarrass him in front of his hot neighbor. but yes ok. oikawa basically feels like he's floating as the week goes by and suddenly it's the day they had agreed to grab dinner.
and yet, here he is. standing in front of his mirror wondering what to wear. he's never really faced this problem before? because he kind of didn't care what other people thought of his nerdy clothes. he also didn't really want to dress up either since he did have an event to go to before their dinner... event. (hey he refuses to call it a dinner date, because that possibly includes something romantic. and there is probably nothing romantic at all about today's.... dinner plans.
anyway-- he keeps alternating between his really old and faded godzilla shirt, or the rock paper scissors spock hand shirt. in the end he goes with the rock paper scissors spock hand shirt and leaves for his event. hours later he comes back and he's in a bubble of emotions. he's kind of glad he chose his outfit before he left because he absolutely has no time to choose now.
and now all he's thinking about is trying to not be too weird or making sure he keeps his nerd at bay.]

and with that he goes to answer the door.] Hey! [he pats his butt and front pockets and realizes that he doesn't have his keys] Uh-- just let me grab my keys and we can go.
